STRIKE IN AFRICA.

A DRASTIC MOV» WITHDRAWAL OF ESSENTIAL SERVICES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 14, 5.5 p.m. Capetown, Jan. 13. Pressure is being brought to bear on the railwaymen, to take advantage of the industrial crisis, and Labor organisations throughout the Union are being urged to prepare to join in a general strike, beginning at 6 a.m. on Monday, next. A message from Johannesburg reports a drastic move by the Federation, whkh announces that all essential serviem will be withdrawn at seven o’clock tomorrow morning. The Federation alleges that the employers are substituting scab men. Another ground for the Federation’s decision is that its offer to work the coal mines was not accepted by the Government or the employers.— Reuter Service.
