SIR JOSEPH WARD.
MAY RE-ENTER POLITICS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Jan. 13. Much interest has 'been aroused in political circles by a definite but at present unofficial statement that Sir Joseph Ward intends to re-enter lt is stated by those in a position to know that Sir Joseph will stand at the next general election, and that he will contest Wellington North against the sitting member, Siir John Luke. It is added that the ex-Prime Minister’s eldest son, Mr. Cyril Ward, will also be a candidate at the next election and that he will stand for Awarua, his father’s electorate for a number of years.
A statement from Sir Joseph may be expected shortly. Christchurch, Last Night. Apropos of the rumors that Sir Joseph Ward intends to contest a certain seat in ’the general election Mr. Cyril Ward says so far as he knows Sir Joseph has no intention at present of re-entering politics. THE AWARUA SEAT. MR. CYRIL WARD’S DENIAL. Christchurch, Last Night. iA report comes from Wellington that Mr. Cyril Ward (eldest son of Sir Joseph Ward) may contest the Awarua seat against Mr. J. R. Hamilton at the general election. Mr. Cyril Ward said this afternoon that the reference to his contesting the Awarua seat was the first he had heard of such a matter. He had no intention of doing so. ANOTHER DENIAL. Invercargill, Last Night. Sir Joseph Ward arrived by to-night’s express and was welcomed by the Mayor and a large crowd. In an address at the station Sir Joseph said there was no foundation for the rumor that he would contest the Wellington North seat. His health was improving every day, but he would not again enter polities until satisfied that he was again physically well and strong. Referring to the disturbed state of the world’s markets, he said that theories for the solution of the trouble were of no use. The only to remedy it was by the establishment of a central clearing bond for Britain, Continental and overseas countries by which British currency would be stabilised.
