CHANGES IN IRELAND. EVACUATING TROOPS. RELEASE OF PRISONERS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —-Copyright. Received Jan. 12, 7.25 p.m. London, Jan. 11. The Daily Chronicle states that the withdrawal of British troops from Ireland begins on Thursday, when several detachments of the “Black and Tans” will embark. Plans are well forward for the release of Irish prisoners, Including forty under sentence of death. Altogether 1010 convicted men are awaiting release.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
A LABOR MANIFESTO. “THE HOUR HIS STRUCK.” London, Jan. 11. A manifesto issued by the Irish Labor Party concludes: “The hour has struck for the workers to emerge from the shade,” and adds: “The workers’ struggle henceforth must be against capitalism. Unless the new Government realises the supremacy of Labor it will not be a republic in the eyes of the work-ers.”—-Reuter.
SOUTHERN PARLIAMENT TO MEET. DISBANDING AUXILIARY FORCES. London, Jan. 11. The Griffith Cabinet has decided to summon the Southern Ireland Parliament for Saturday for the establishment of a provisional Government.
Dublin Castle announces the disbandment of the auxiliary police and “Black and Tans” immediately. The Irish Times says the electors will accept the free State constitution by an overwhelming majority, and will relegate to private life most of the persons who defied their wishes in Dail Eireann.
The Irish Independent says that instead of dissipating their energies in political conflict Irishmen of all parties ought to concentrate upon the formation of a constitution ensuring for the Free State the fullest benefit derivable from the treaty.—Aus.-N.Z. The Southern Irish Parliament consists of all members of the Dail Eireann, plus four Dublin university members, who refused to take the oath to the republic.
