PAY ON HOLIDAYS.

THE POSITION AT CHRISTMAS THE ACT INTERPRETED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Although the Act known as the Mondayising Christmas Act is yet only three weeks old there appears to be some doubt 'in the minds of employers as to the rates of jmy that should be granted to employees that were required to work on the Sunday on which Christmas Day fell, on the Monday on which it was kept up, or on the Tuesday on which Boxing Day was observed. Inquiry at the Department of Labor elicited the information that there should be no difficulty ih interpreting the new Act. Where provision is made for the granting of a holiday, or the observance of certain hours of labor, or the payment of certain rates of wages on Sundays, such provisions shalL apply without modification on a Sunday being Christmas Day. Where such provision is made for a Christmas Day shall apply on the next succeeding day as if it were Christmas Day. and where it was made for Boxing Day it shall apply on the next succeeding Tuesday as if it were Boxing Day. Briefly put the rule in connection with the recent holidays vas that Sunday rates were to be paid for Sunday, Christmas Day rates for Monday, agd. Boxing Day rates for Tuesday.
