HOLIDAY VISITORS.
INFLUX TO NEW PLYMOUTH. MORE THAN LAST YEAR. The holiday season has been responsible for a large influx of visitors to New Plymouth, juding by the experience of hotels and private accommodation houses. Practically all have been booked up by visitors during the last three weeks. One morning this week a certain hotel catered for 75 people and the proprietor expressed the opinion to a Daily News reporter that this year has seen a larger number of visitors than at the previous holdiay season. They represent among their numbers many cities and towns in the North and South Islands. Private boarding houses have also been coping with a continuous stream of holiday makers. Girls and women visiting the town have been catered for largely by the Y.W.C.A. hostel, but enquiries have more than exceeded the room available. It has been the aim of those in charge, however, to find other accommodation in private houses when visitors cannot be housed at the hostel. Incidentally one gentleman visiting New Plymouth recently asked the question as to why a Y.M.C.A. institution was not also established in the town, no doubt having in mind the good work done by this organisation for young men. Visitors have patronised the excursion trips to the mountain in good numbers, in addition to visiting other places of interest about New Plymouth. The tourist bureau has a daily number of enquiries from holiday makers, and applications for handbooks, and bookings of accommodation at hotels extend through January, while many prospective visitors have reserved rooms for next month.
