NEW PLYMOUTH’S PROGRESS.
BUILDING IN THE BOROUGH. LAST YEAR’S RECORD. The return worked out by the inspector (Mr. R. Day) of the building permits issued in the borough of New Plymouth for the year just ended shows that there has been a very considerable amount of building going on here during that period. The total number ot permits issued for the 12 months ended December 31 was 318, and the aggregate value of the buildings for which they were issued was £152,180. Most of the permits were for dwelling houses averaging in value from £750 to £l2OO. Several new business premises were erected. The principal new buildings included in last year’s list were the new club house for the Taranaki Club at the corner of St. Aubyn and Queen Streets, Jellyman’s garage, Devon Street, shop ’ premises for the Tunbridge Estate, Devon Street, and warehouse and showrooms for Wilkinson’s, Ltd., of Eltham, in St. Aubyn Street. The value of the permits issued for each month of the period was as follows: —
