The Rev. J. W. Palmer, of Opunake, left by the Rarawrf last night for. Auckland. He will be absent for a week.
His Worship the Mayor (Air. F. E. Wilson) has returned to New Plymouth after a most enjoyable motor tour.
Captain E. Dorling is relieving Captain Bark on the Rarawn, the latter being at present away on holiday leave. Mr. F. F. Hockly, the sitting member, lias definitely deeded to contest the Rotorua seat at the next general election. —Press message. A cable from Melbourne says Mr. F. G. Tudor, leader of the Federal Labor Party* whose health has been causing serious anxiety, is. in a sinking condition.
Before the termination of the Inglewood County Council’s meeting yesterday, Cr. G. Capper intimated his intention of resigning his seat ex the council and also stated that he was giving up his position as representative on (he Taranaki Hospital Board. Afembers, however, asked Mr. Capper to reconsider his decision by the next meeting.
A golden wedding recently celebrated was that of Air. and Airs. T. J. Torrey, at Castlecliff, Wanganui. The marriage took place at Patea, the bride being then Miss Ellen Smith, daughter of Air. and Airs. Daniel Smith, early settlers in the district. Air. and Airs. Torrey have a -family of eight, with thirtynine grandchildren. There was a great gathering of the family and friends on the occasion of the golden wedding, and Air. and Mrs. Torrey each wore some of the attire of '5O years ago worn at the wedding. Airs. Gilshman of Patea, one of the former bridesmaids, was one of those present at the celebrations.
