SEX BY CHOICE.

NATURE REVEALING HER AGEOLD SECRETS. Experiments which are being conducted at Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island, by a staff of scientists, under the direction of Dr. C. B. Davenport, have for their aim sex predetermination, which will enable parents to choose the sex of their offspring. Science is believed to be on the threshold of the discovery of a secret which has baffled the world for centuries, says the Central News. According to a statement by Dr. Davenport, mammals, with the same physical characteristics as human beings, are being used for the first time in the tests, and if the experiments prove successful there is said to be no reason why the discovery should not be applied to human beings. Tn the present instances mice are being used for experiments. It has been known for a long time that the elimination of certain sex* determining factors would theoretically enable scientists to predetermine the sex of offspring, but it was not fully knowm what those factors were.

Many mysteries have been cleared up by recent researches. It has been as-

serted that the manipulation of other factors might also be accomplished, such as those determining the color of hair and eyes, and even of hereditary traits.
