SOUTHLAND RACES. SUNNY LOCH WINS THE BIG HANDICAP. Invercargill, Jan. 4. The Southland R.C. meeting concluded in fine weather. There was another large attendance. The principal race, the Southland Handicap, produced a fine finish, Sunny Loch getting up just in time to beat Songbird, who made the running. An inquiry against Reid for jamming Songbird was dismissed. The totalisator receipts showed a falling off, £26,206, as compared with £36,086 last year, a decrease of £18,716 in both days. Results:— GLADSTONE HURDLES. One mile and three-quarters.—Glenshine (Robinson) 1, Strathglass 2, Mettle Drift 3. Won by two lengths, with a length between second and third. Time, Bmin. ■l9sec.

ROSLYN TROT. Two miles. —Jane Wilkes (Matheson) 1, Lucky Prince 2, Wild Thyme 3. Won by a head, with six lengths between second and third. Time, 4min. 42sec.

SHORTS, HANDICAP. Six furlongs. —Silver Peak (Marshall) 1. Mantua 2, Bon Spec 3. Won by half a neck, with four lengths between second and third. Time, Imin. 12 4-ssec.

GREYMOUTH MEETING. CUP WON BY GAMECOCK. Jan. 4. Glorious weather prevailed for the second day of the Greymouth Jockey Club’s meeting. There was a large attendance. The totalisator handled £13,119, compared with £15,954 on the corresponding day last year. Results: TELEGRAPH HANDICAP. Six furlongs. —Missland (Stratton) 1, Woodrow 2, Lady Pallas 3. Won by a neck. Time, Imin. 16 4-ssec. Woodrow was mistakenly placed first, but the judge corrected the decision. A protest by Woodrow’s owner was dismissed.

FLYING HANDICAP. Five furlongs and a half.—-Samarang (Corkill) 1, Kilderg 2, Marauder 3. Won all the way by half a length. Time, Imin. lOsec.

GREYMOUTH CUP. One mile and a quarter.—Gamecock (Humphries) 1, Mythology 2, Cheer Up 3. Mythology led into the straight, where Gamecock challenged and won by a head, with Cheer Up three lengths away third. Prince Ferouz fell, his rider (Stratton) being severely bruised and having to be sent to the hospital. Time, 2min. lOsec.

BLACKBALL HANDICAP. Six furlongs.—Ahika (Cbtton) 1, Rosevear 2, Redsome 3. Won by a length, with a neck between second and third. Time, Imin. 16 l-ssec.

SECOND HURDLES. One mile and a half.—Comment (Scobie) 1, War Tax 2, Black Night 3. Won by a head, with three lengths between second and third. Time, 2min. 49 2-ssec.

NEW YEAR HANDICAP. Six furlongs.—Battle Scene (Humphries) and Weary Willie (Young) dead heat 1, ixilderg *3. Won by two lengths. Time, Imin. 16 3-ssec.

HIGH-WEIGHT HANDICAP. Seven furlongs.—Lady Middleton (Cotton) I, Grand Duchy 2. Tyne 3. Won by a nose. Time, Imin. 30 3-ssec.
