CYCLIST KNOCKED DOWN.
When cycling home from the Stratford races on Tuesday, Mr. J. Hannett, of the Eltham railway station staff, was knocked down by a motor car, but escaped serious injury in a remarkable manner. The victim was cycling steadily along near the railway crossing north of Ngaere when a big car with a Wanganui registration dashed by, and hitting the cycle, threw the unfortunate rider on to the side of the road. The man in control of the car proceeded on his way. "Happily, Mr. E. Cleaver, of Te Roti, arrived upon the scene of the accident shortly after, and, noticing Hannett lying on the roadside, picked him up and brought him to Eltham, where he was immediately attended to by Dr. Cooper. Hannett was found to have sustained a rupture of the muscles of the right thigh and a wound on the palm of the right hand, and was also suffering somewhat severely from shock.—Argus.
