THE KARITANE ABANDONED. Melbourne, Jan. 3. Owing to the expense involved, the Union Company has decided not to attempt the salvage of the Karitane, which will be sold by auction. Probably an effort will be made by underwriters to salvage the valuable cargo of copper in the steamer’s holds. Divers will be required for the work. PRICE-FIXING DROPPED. Perth, Jan. 3. Owing to Parliament failing to pass the Bill to continue the Price-fixing Act another year, the fixing of prices has ceased. STATE REVENUE RETURNS. Sydney, Jan. 2. The New South Wales revenue for the half-year ended December 31 is £15,535,365, an increase of £1,388,754, compared with the previous corresponding half year. The chief increase is in in-come-tax and railway revenue. Adelaide, Jan. 2. The revenue for the half year is £3,21.6,000, an increase? of £249,256. Melbourne, Jan. 2. The revenue for the half year is £7,701/500, an increase of £158,000.
