London, Jan. 3. The Daily Telegraph, on high authority, states the Geddes Economy Committee intends to recommend a reduction of naval personnel by 35,000 officers and men.
The Telegraph declares the decision will cause consternation throughout the Dominions in view of the reductions the Admiralty has already made under constant Treasury pressure. The paper states the present personnel is insufficient to adequately man the small and effective fleet retainable under the Washington agreement, and a further reduction will expose the country and her sea-borne commerce to the gravest risks.—Aus.-N.Z.
