Trotsky’s aged and half-blind father was led to the altar by his sons and son-in-law and solemnly charged his son with being an enemy of Judaism and a curse to humanity, declaring that every Russian in the entire world was his ; witness. Trotsky’s mother fainted during the proceedings, but revived and joined her other relatives in disowning Trotsky eternally.
