DOMESTIC TRAGEDY.
ONE DEAD; FOUR WOUNDED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Received Jan. 2, 8.10 pan. Melbourne, Jan. 2. A tragedy has occurred at Brighton. Mrs. Baker* who is separated from her husband, arrived home late at night with her son and a boarder named Rainburg, and on entering the house Mrs. Baker’s husband appeared from one of the rooms and commenced firing a revolver. He fatally shot Rainburg and wounded his wife in the head and the son slightly. Baker escaped into a paddock and exchanged shots with the police. He then shot himself in the head. Baker and his wife were sent to hospital.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. Received Jan. 2, 11.45 p.m. Melbourne, Jan. 2. The Baker tragedy was the finale of a long family quarrel. A few days the wife secured a protection order against Baker, in view of alleged threats.
