DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIP. THE SEMI-FINALS. OLLiyiER DEFEATED, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The New Zealand lawn tennis championship tournament was continued today in perfect weather. The courts were fast and in excellent order. A feature of the day’s play was the defeat of G. Ollivier (Canterbury) by Dr. Laurenson (Waikato) in the men’s singles championship. Ollivier took the first two sets, but Laurenson, playing steadily and smashing brilliantly on occasions, managed to take the next three of the match. Results:— Men’s Singles.—Fourth round: Griffiths defeated Denton G—l, 6—4, I—G, 7—5; Laurenson defeated Peacock 3—6 G—3, 3 —6, o —-2, 6 —l. Semi-final: Laurenson defeated Ollivier 4—6, 3—6, 7 —5, 6—4, B—6; Bartleet defeated Griffiths 6—3, 9—7, 6—4.. Ladies’ Singles.—Third round: Mrs. Watson defeated Miss Fenwick 6—3, 7 —5. Semi-final: Miss Marjorie Mac•farlane defeated Miss Bain 6— 3, 7 —5; Miss Curtis defeated Mrs. Watson 6—4, 6—4. Men’s Doubles.—Third round: Sims and Griffiths defeated France and France 6—3, 6—o, 6—4 ; Robson and Bartleet defeated Peacock and Salmond 6—4, G—l, B—G. Semi-final: Goss and Greenwood defeated Bray and Clark 6 — i, 3—B, 6—B, 7 —5, 6 —o; Robson and Bartleet defeated Sims and Griffiths 6—3, 6—4, 6—3.
Combined Doubles.—Semi-final: Miss Curtis and Ollivier defeated Miss Marjorie Macfarlane and Robson 7 —5, 6—l; Mrs. Marshall and Bartleet defeated Miss Bain and Clark 6 —3, 6—3.
Ladies’ Doubles. —Final: Mrs. W. J. Melody and Miss N. E. Curtis (Wellington) defeated Mrs. C. J. Marshall and Miss Marjorie Macfarlane (Auckland) 6—2, 4—5, 6 —2. Boys’ Junior Singles. —Final: E. D. Andrews (Palmerston North) defeated W. R. Robinson (Canterbury) 6—3, Girls’ Junior Singles. —Final: Miss A. Howe (Wellington) defeated Miss E. H. Reeves (Canterbury) 6—« l, 6 —4. ALTERATION OF RULES. The championship committee of the Lawn Tennis Association has written to the various holders, giving them the option of playing through the tournaments next season or playing in the challenge round only, but it intimates that holders from 1923 onwards must play through. NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. Miss Home and E. King have won the combined doubles in connection with the New Plymouth Club, having defeated Miss Bedford and Wynyard in the final. Members are asked to play, with as little delay as possible, games in any of the club events now posted in the pavilion.
