A number of shopkeepers took p . . nt age of the permissi -n granted by the Borough Council to decorate the r shops with greenery, and procured a pretty effect which helped considerably to brighten the town. Though there was a large crowd in town there were no unrulv_or out of place incidents worthy, of notice. Christmas Day and Boxing Day were both spoiled, hr bad weather conditions, but yesterday holiday-makers had a good chance to ger. about, ami the trains received good loads of ,passengers from the Stratford station. Ngaere Gardens were well patronised and the introduction of motor boat rides on the lake was very popular. The town •to-day was very quiet, some of the business places being still closed. The town is now looking forward to the annual race meeting next Monday and Tuesday and the boxing tournament which will be staged at the Town Hall on Monday night. Mr. R. Masters, MJ?., who returned to Stratford for the Christmas and New Year holidays, will go back to Wellington on January 10.

The date of the sports meeting which will be run next year by the Stratford A. and P. Association was originally fixed for March 2, but owing to the date for the Inglewood sports falling on the the same day it has been decided to hold the Stratford fixture on March 23. In the recent examinations held in connection with Sir Isaac Pitman’s College for Shorthand, certificates for a speed of 80 words per minute were obtained by Constance Bonner. Mary Coley., and Myrtle Wilson, pupils of the Stratford Sacred Heart School.

Don’t fail to see these. Other lines suitable as gifts are Pocket Diaries. Leather Wallets and Purses, Cabinets of Stationery.
