At Dedham, Massachusetts, Judge Thayer declined to grant a motion for a new trial of Sacco and Vanzetti, whose death sentence caused riots and threats against America all over the world. The Judge held that he could see no reason for setting aside the jury’s verdict.' The defence immediately introduced subsidiary technical claims for a new- trial, and the Judge will give his decision later. Paris, Dec. 24. A man named Domblines, at Orthez, in the basses of the Pyrenees, barricaded himself in a house to prevent eviction for non-payment of rent, and gendarmes besieged the house on Thursday. Domblines has Already shot one gendarme and wounded four. Later the building was gassed and fired on and Domblines was foujid dead. Paris, Dec. 24. The Senate finance committee, despite M. Briand’s insistence, declined by fourteen votes to twelve to pass a credit for an embassy to the Vatican. London, Dec. 24. Mr. Lloyd George ’and M. Briand will spend a few days together at Cannes before the Allies’ conference, which opens on January 4. London„ Dec. The disposals Commission has realised £(576,000.000 by sales of surplus war material. It is estimated the remainder is likely to produce another £150,000,000.
