A SUDDEN DEATH.

ON WEST END BOWLING GRJBKN. OLD TARANAKI RESIDENT. The death occurred on the West End bowling green, New Plymouth, yesterday afternoon, with tragic suddenness, of Mr. James Thomson, an , old Taranaki identity. He had been bowling, and, without warning, collapsed, dying immediately. The day was an unusually warm one, and this no doubt contributed to his death. The late Mr. Thomson spent forty years of his life in the Ngaere district, where he took a prominent part in .the life of the community. For many years he was a member of the Stratford County Council and the New Plymouth Harbor Board. A few years ago he came to New Plymouth and had since been Hying in retirement. He was seventy-five years of age, and ,a bachelor. He was of a genial, kindly nature, and ever ready to extend a helping hand to any cause commending itself to him. He had straight-forward convictions, and once he made up his mind on any point nothing would make him depart from it. He was one of the old strong and rugged type of colonist wiic laid the foundations of Taranaki, and his sudden end will be regretted by a large circle of friends. An inquest will be held this morning by the coroner, Mr. A. M. Mowlem, S.M
