(By “Moturoa.”) Once again ’‘Moturoa” is privileged to wish all good sports a happy New Year, and all the “good things” of the festive season, at the same time heartily reciprocating the good wishes of many who have got in first with their warm greetings. The holiday season in Taranaki this year promises to be a most enjoyable one, particularly for those wro enjoy good racing, for the Taranaki and Stratford clubs offer four days splendid sport—good horses and big fields. May you all “hop out well,” get a good run,” and “finish winners” at the meetings I

The Taranaki Jockey Club’s Christmas ■meeting started badly yesterday, but given an improvement in the weather all events promise to be keenly contested. A good deal has already been written of the chances of ths various runners. Suffice to that Stork, Volo and Pine Arch should show up in the open distance events at the meeting, and Inah, Income and Infante in the open sprints. Simon and Active promise to take a big hand in the settlement of the hurdle races, while Still Sea, Mixture, Mockery, Sunny Jim, Ardath, Roman and Awake are nicely placed io run well in the oninor events.

The Hawke's Bay district committee has. confirmed H. Goldfinch’s suspension, but "has reduced the period to a month.
