DISASTER AVERTED.

FIRE IN A CONVENT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Received Dec. 25, 5.5 p.m. London, Dec. 24. Thrilling scenes were witnessed at a fire at the Shepherd’s Convent in Cork. The lives of 170 small girls were in peril, but the firemen, assisted by volunteers, got all the children away safely. Though the fire actually broke out in a children’s dormitory, the only casualty was a fireman injured through falling against a wall.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
