A meeting of the council of the Miners’ Federation is discussing whether nine days a fortnight be put into operation in the New Year. The owners state that if the men decide in the affirmative there will be trouble on the tenth day. j BUSINESS AMALGAMATION.
Sydney, Dec. 23. In consequence of the recent fire the business of the Pastoral and Finance Association has been taken over by the Co-operative Wool and Produce Company, which was established in 1897 by influential pastoralists, of whom Sir W. M’Caughey was prominent. The capital has recently been increased to £120,000. The arrangement is subject to ratification by the shareholders of both companies. It is believed the amalgamation will effect a stronger union of pastoral interests from theviewpoint of the shareholders and clients.
