ELECTION TO "BE HELD SOON. By Telegraph.—Press Assn Sydney, Dec. 23. Tn the Assembly Mr. Dooley (the Premier) announced that he intended to pass the estimates and deal with the amending Electoral Act, now before the Upper House, and then prorogue and hold the election a? soon as practicable. The Opposition strongly opposed this course, Sir George Fuller stating that his party would not agree to pass the estimates without discussion, but would agree to grant four months’ supply. Mr. Txjxton announced that, in view of the existing state of affairs, he had joined the Nationalist Party. Mr. Dooley emphasised that passing the estimates would not make the slightest difference in the date of the elections. It is unofficially stated that the Government does not propose to drop the Basic Wage Bill, fixing the basic wage at £4 ss. but intends to omit rural worker.? from the scope of the Bill and make the Bill part of its election policy early in the New Year. \
