. THE TALLOW MARKET. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—-Copyright. London, Dec. 22. The demand for tallow has improved, and sales are fixed for January 4. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, Dec. 23. Flour and bran have been reduced by 10s a ton, and are now £l2 10s and £5 10s respectively. Barley.—English, 4s 2d and 4s 4d; Cape 33. Oats, 2s S’/fed and 3s lOd per bushel. Potatoes, £4 and £6 per ton. Onions, £4 10s per ton. NEW PLYMOUTH HAYMARKET. There were very few pigs penned at Newton King, Ltd.’s, New Plymouth Haymarket yesterday. Stores made 24s and weaners 15s to 16s 6d. THE POULTRY MARKET. Messrs. L. A. Nolan and Co., report: Hens Is lOd to 3s 6d, chicks 3d to Is (according to size), ducks 2s 9d to 3s 9d, geese 7s to 12s 6d, turkey gobblers 16s to 20s, hens 14s. Webster Bros, report :• Turkey hens 18s 6d, gobblers 20s, hens 2s 7d to 3s 6d, ducks 3s 6d. BURNSIDE STOCK SALE. GOOD DEMAND FOR LAMBS. Dunedin, Dec. 21. Large yardings of fat stock were offered at Burnside to-day. With the exception of the lamb sale, competition lacked buoyancy. Dwing to it being the Christmas sale, lambs were in good demand, and a sharp advance in prices resulted. The offerings of sheep and fat cattAp were of good quality. The next Burnsidiyfale will be held on, Thursday, January Fat Cattle.—A large yarding, numbering 228 head of good quality. There was a fair demand at the opening of the sale, and prices were about on a par with those which ruled at the previous week’s sale, but rates advanced as the sale progressed, and closed 20§ per head better. Prime ox beef was worth up to 27s per 1001 b, medium 24s to 265, prime bullocks realised tom £l4 to £l6 10s, medium £ll to £l3 10s, lighter kinds from £7 10s upwards. Prime heifers realised from £9 10s to £ll,'medium £7 10s to £9, light and aged, from £4 10s upwards.

Sheep.—A large yarding for a Christmas sale, as mutton is not greatly in demand at this season. The total number offered was 2535. The qualitj’ on th.e whole was good, but the demand was slack, and prices showed a of 2s per head compared with last week’s rates. Prime wether J mutton was worth 3d per lb. Prime wethers realised from 18s to 20s 9d, medium 15s Gd to 17s 6d, lighter kinds front 14s upwards, prime ewes 14s 6d to 17s Gd, medium 13s to 13s Gd, light and aged fromi 9s upwards.

Lambs.—A large yarding numbering 24R1 head. There was an excellent demand, and prices showed an advance of 4s per head above last, week’s low rates. Extra prime lambs realised front 25s 3d to 30s 6d, prime 20s to 24s Gd, medium 16s 6d to 19s, lighter kinds from Ils upwards. Best lamb was worth about 6%d per lb. Store Cattle. —A small yarding was offered, among the number being a few pens of four-year-old steers in a forward condition. These were sold at prices ranging front £4 10s io £6 2s 6d. These prices show a further reduction on the low rates lately ruling. Pigs.—A medium yarding was offered, which met with a rather quiet demand, and prices were practically on a par with those which ruled at last week’s sale. Best baconers realised from 6d to 6%d per lb, and best porkers freon 7d to 7%d per lb.

ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. MUTTON SOLD AT IMPROVED RATES. Christchurch, Dee. 21. To-day’s Addington market was a double one, in view of the Christmas holidays. There was an exceptionally big offering of lambs, which sold freely. Export buyers were operating to some extent. Mutton sold at improved rates, but the demand for beef, except for very prime quality, was easy. Store Sheep.—The entry was mostly of twotootl? wethers. There was a better demand, and an almost total clearance, the sale being the best for some time. Two-tooth wethers realised 5s Gd to 6s Id, cull and inferior 3s lid to 5s 4d, four-tooth wethers 9s 8d to 10s Id, four and six-tooth wethers 9s 9d to 10s 3d, forward wethers 12s 4d, cull four and six-tooth wethers 5s 7d, two-tooth ewes Is Id, failing-mouthed ewes and lambs 6s lOd (all counted). Fat Lambs.—A yarding of 5440, compared with 760 last week. Though prices were easier it was a good sale, the bulk of the entry selling at about 5Hd per lb. Extra prime lambs realised 20s Gd to 23s 7d, prime 17s 6d to 20s, medium 14s 6d to 19s, light and inferior 13s 3d to 13s 9d.

Fat Sheep.—A small yarding and a spirited sale until the final stages, when prices sagged. Until then values were up 2s P'lr head on last week. Extra prime wethers realised 24s to 275, prime 20s to 235, medium 16s 6d to 19s 6d, lighter 13s to 15s 9d. prime ewes 15s to 18s, medium 12s Gd to 14s 6d, light and inferior 6s 9d to Ils 6d. Fat Cattle.—Except for extra prime, there was an easing in prices, particularly for all light, beef, much of which sold for no more than 20s per 1001 b. Good prime beef sold at from 27s 6d to 30s, and a few pens for more than that. Extra prime steers realised £l3 10s to £l5 15s, primp £lO to £l3 2s 6d, medium £6 17s 6d to £9 10s, lighter £5 to £6 12s 6d, prime heifers £6 17s 6d to £8 15s, ordinary £3 15s to £6 10s, prime cows £5 to £6 12s 6d, ordinary £3 to £4 15s. Vealers.—A large entry find a good sale. Runners £4 12s Gd, good vealers £2 10s to £3 16s, medium 30s to £2 ss, Inferior 15s to £1 ss, small calves 7s 6a. z

Store Cattle.—A smaller yarding than last week, but of better quality. There was a dull sale. Three-year-old steers realised £4 10s to £5 7s 6d, two-year-olds £2 10s to £3, yearlings £1 to £1 7s 6d, yearling heifers £2 to £2 15s, two-year-olds £3 to £3 6s, three-year-olds £4 10s to £6, good cows £1 15s to £2, inferior £1 to £1 10s. Dairy Cattle.—A small ■ yarding and a j>oor demand. Good second and third calvers realised £lO to £l3, ordinary £5 to £9, springing heifers £6 10s to £9 10s, inferior cows and cows in milk 10s to 30s. Fat Pigs.—Choppers 45s to 70s, light baconers 55s to 60s, heavy 65s to 70s, extra heavy £4 (average price per lb 5%d to 6*4d), light porkers 35s to 40s, heavy 45s tol 54s (average price per lb 6%d to 8d). Store Pigs.—Prices Were much lower, except for small suckers suitable for the Christmas trade. Medium stores 20s to 255, small 12s to 20s, good weaners 12s to 17s, small 7s to Ils.
