SOLDIERS IN DIFFICULTIES.
DEPARTMENT SYMPATHETIC. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter). Mr. J. McCombs (Lyttelton) informed the Minister of Lands that he had a communication from soldiers who were unable to meet payments due by them to the department, and were anxiou. to know whether these payments migl 1 be postponed, without penalty, till they received their butter-fat cheque for De cember. The Minister (Hon. D. IL Guthrie) said that there would have been nothing to prevent the soldiers from obtaining from the department the information they desired. He did not know the circumstances of the case he was being :isk;ed to make a pronouncement upon. He could assure the member,, however, that no injustice would be inflicted on any returned soldier on account of difficulties caused by the present .■dump. The proper course for soldiers in eases like the one mentioned by the mt mber .va* to apply to the. laud board in their district. In cases where a postponement was granted no penalty was inflicted if payment was made on the date fixed under the arrangement for postponement.
