NGAERE SCHOOL.
ANNUAL PRIZE - GIVING. The annual prize-giving ceremony ,‘of the Ngaere School took place at /he school on Friday. There was a large attendance of parents and friends. Mr. Coleman, chairman of the school committee, who presented the prizes, referred to the good progress made by pupils of the school and to the good feeling which existed between the parents and teachers. On behalf |of the pupils of Standard VI. he presented the headmaster (Mr. Brown) with a wallet. ■Mt. Johnson, agriculture instructor, spoke of the enthusiasm and ability shown by Mr. Brown in rural school work and the importance of a school like Ngaere being the community centre of the district. Mr. Brown, responding, expressed pleasure at the great interest shown by the public in the school. During the afternoon a programme of items was given by the senior scholars, and after a nut and lolly’- scramble given by the headmaster, afternoon tea was provided. The following prizes were presented: For good attendance.—Eileen Bocock, Jessie Betteridge, Stewart Edwards, Marjorie Bocock, Fanny Taylor, Annie Johnson, Bethel Pruden, Jack Tonken and Clarence Walker. Prizes won at the recent show at Stratford by scholars from the school: — Cow judging: J. Wheeler and B. Pruden. Notebook (nature study notes): W. Arthur. Collection of grasses: B. Pruden and A. Quarrel. Collection of weeds: F. Taylor. Cookery: I. Tarrant and M. Bocock. Prizes in connection with the local Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Club:—• Mangold growing: J. Wheeler 1, Fanny Taylor 2. Calf-rearing: B. Pruden 1, J. Wheeler 2, A. Johnson 3.
