NORFOLK ROAD SCHOOL.
BREAKING-UP AND PRIZE PRESENTATION For this annual, anxiously anticipated event on Friday last, there was a good gathering. Mr. H. Trimble, the Strict’s representative on the Education Board, presented the prizes awarded, viz.: — Standard 6.—Cedric Drake Dux, Douglas Jones 2. Standard s.—Eileen Kendrick 1, George Thomas 2. Standard 4.—Douglas Hart 1, Beryl Egarr 2, Willie O’Malley 3. Standard 3.—Rita Kendrick 1, Edgar Hastie Standard 2.—Dudley Drake 1, Lucy Brown ~ Standard I.—Esther Wright 1, Gladys Jones 2. The children in the preparatory classes eacli received a gift book. Other prizes were: Full attendance. —Harry West. Frank Wisnewski and Cissie Chapman standard 5; Graham Hastie, Alfred West and Phyllis Wisnewskl standard 4; Edgar and Robert Hastie standard 3; and Augusta Dodunski in the preparatory class. Good attendance.—Alice Hastie standard 6; Neil Brown, Jim O'Malley and Elsie Chapman standard 5. Helpfulness.—Alice Hastie standard 6, and Arthur Chapman standard 1. Arithmetic. —Hugh Aubrey, standard 6. Gardening.—Nellie Davis and Elsie Reeve standard 6. Diligence.—Ruth Reeve and Amy Lawrence standard 4, Gwen Chard standard 2. Neatness. —Cora O’Maliy, Frances Neustrowsky and Flo Cossey standard 4. Sewing.—Doris Christian standard 4, and Maida Corney standard 2. After the prizes had been presented, Mr. Wagstaff, the head teacher, read a report on the year’s work of the school, and then, on behalf of the girl pupils, made a presentation of a serviette ring and box of handkerchiefs to Miss Fugle, the assistant teacher, who Is leaving the school with the close of the school year. Miss Fugle feelingly responded, thanking her pupils for their expression of goodwill, and all for the assistance and encouragement they had given her In her work at the school. Mr. E. Davis addressed those present on behalf of the School Committee, apologising for the absence of Mr. A. West (ehairman of the committee), on account of sickness In his family. He particularly thanked Mr. Trimble for being present to distribute the prizes at no small personal inconvenience, and referred warmly to the amount of good work he (Mr. Trimble) did for the boi\rd, the school, and the cause of education.
