THE BUTTER MARKET.
SERIOUS POSITION IN LONDON. QUANTITIES IN STORE. By Telegraph. —Pre** Association Wellington, Last Night. Replying to a question in the House to-day, Mr. Massey said he noticed with regret the collapse of the butter market. The pressure of business had prevented him bringing the matter before Cabinet, but he hoped to be in a position to do so in the course of the next few days.
Mr. Massey said there were 310,000 boxes of New Zealand butter and 560,000 boxes of Australian butter stored in London. The position was serious, and if any factories could change over from butter to cheesy he advised them to do so. He, however, could not go into details at present, and he asked members not to press the matter lor the next twenty-four hours, by which time he hoped to have a further communication from the High Commissioner. He could promise that the Government would go thoroughly into the whole question.
