THE TARIFF BILL. Melbourne, Dec. 16. The Tasmanian Assembly passed a Bill permitting women to contest seats in the State Parliament. The Tariff Bill lias received Vice-Re-gal assent. PACIFIC CABLE DUPLICATION. Sydney, Dec. 17. It is stated that the Pacific Cable Board’s new scheme of duplication proposes to link up Fanning Island with Honolulu, in lieu of Fanning Island and the Bam field cable. It is also intended to construct a new cable from Auckland to Suva, which will eliminate Norfolk Island. PRODUCTION STATISTICS. Sydney. Dec. 17. Mr. McGregor, British Trade Commissioner, lias compiled figures showing that while the value of production in the Commonwealth has grown during the past seven years, the volume has seri- 1 ously declined. The value in 1913 of various industries was £21'8,103,000, and in 1920 £348,183,000. The latter figures were reduced to £173,225,000 when assessed on the 1913 level of prices, EX-ENEMY VESSELS, Melbourne, Dec, ]7. Mr. Justice Cussen made, an order that 28 seized ex-enemy vessels were good lawful prizes. The total value of vessels in the possesion of the Commonwealth Government is £1.325.000.
