COLONIAL GOVERNORS.
THE FINANCIAL ASPECT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Dec. 16. Mr. Churchill, Secretary for the Colonies, replying to Sir Newton Moore, said he could not say whether Sir William Weigall, Governor of South Australia, and Sir William Allardyce, Governor of Tasmania, have resigned in consequence of the heavy English taxation. Sir Newton Moore asked whether in future appointments, guarantees would be obtained from the Governors-desig-nate in order to prevent the repetition’ of such unsatisfactory conditions. Mr. Churchill said the question was difficult, in view of the heavy expenditure involved by these appointments and the difficulty of finding suitable persons with sufficient private means.
