THE INGLEWOOD MEETING. THE PROFESSIONAL CONTEST. At the Inglewood boxing tournament on Thursday night, J. Graham (Auckland) 10.7, met A. Greaves (Australia) 10.6, in a professional contest. The two men looked fit as they entered the ring, Graham the taller >»f the pair, having the advantage of the reach, but Greaves appeared to be the more solid. The bout proved to be a particularly clean and brilliant one, being fast and open and entirely free from that wrestling which so often mars good contests. A feature of the fight was Greaves aggressive tactics and clever in-fighting, but as the fight progressed he appeared to tire. Graham lacked aggressiveness, but he fought, a very heady fight and appeared to gain strength and confidence as the fight progressed. He was able to take the blows that Greaves landed, apparently with little effect, and showing good science had the fight won in the eleventh round ny a knockout. From the start Greaves was the aggressor, and won the first two rounds by narrow margins. the third being even. Greaves again had the advantage in the fourth and fifth rounds, but tte sixth round saw Graham open cut with some forceful blows, and he held the upper hand. The next two rounds saw neither gain any advantage, but Greaves won the ninth. The tenth round proved a splendid one, both making it very willing, and mixing it well. It proved fairly even, but the pace had told on Greaves, as his condition began to give out in the eleventh round, where Graham brought the right across and put him down and out. Both men were accorded an ovation. Prior to the contest challenges to box the winner were read from L. Cadman (Auckland), Scott (Tarata), L. McAsey (Lepperton), Hart (New Plymouth), and C. Callaway. Mr. F. J. Gaffaney, of the Stratford Boxing Association Executive, intimated that on January 2 (race night), the Association was matching H. Gunn (Timaru), bolder, and C. Cann (Wanganui), ex-champion, for the bantam championship. Subsequently the visitors were entertained by the Inglewood Committee to light refreshments. STRATFORD TOURNAMENT.
