GENERAL ITEMS. (From Our Own Correspondent J Dec. 13. The quarterly meeting of the Waitouio Licensing Committee was held today. The only business was an applicatiort for the transfer of the license of the Club Hotel from Robert Fairweather to A. Keith, which was granted. The adjourned meeting of retailers to receive the petition respecting the halfholiday was held on Monday evening. The petition contained 306 names, and it was resolved to forward it to Mr. Jenn.ags, M.P., for presentation to Parliament. Mrs. Lund, who acted as secretary to the local branch of the British Red Cross Society during the war, has received a communication from Miss Nathan, of Wellington, embodying a copy of a cablegram from Lady Ampthill requesting Red Cross workers to take up a Is collection for the purpose of participating in the Empire movement to obtain a wedding present for Princess Mary. Those who are willing to give are requested to do so before January 7 The Waitara Harbor Board and Borough Council have had visits from Dr. Monk, of the Health Department, respecting plague precautions. . The local branch of the Plunket Society, which is doing excellent work, will hold a mart on Friday next to raise funds on behalf of the society. Already promises are to baud of gifts of produce, poultry, etc., for sale
