Miss Natalina McCallum, who is to take part in the Choral Society’s concert to-morrow night, arrived from Auckland by last night’s mail train. Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P. for Taranaki, who has been indisposed, left by the mail train yesterday morning for Wellington, having recovered sufficiently to taka up his Parliamentary, duties.

Mr. William Reid, the oldest resident of Wanganui, died last night, aged 99 years. Deceased was a well-known fanner, but had resided in Wanganui for a number of years. He was in good health till very recently. He was a keen supporter of the V.M.C.A., having made a gift of the site of its .building. He could remember distinctly bonfires being lighted on the Scottish hills to announce Queen Victoria’s accession.— Press Assn.

A Dunedin message reports the death of Dr. Champtloup, Professor of Bacteriology in Otago University. An Auckland message says that the Sacred Heart scholarship examinations result is: Edgar Murphy (Christchurch) 1; Desmond Maher (Auckland) 2. The annual value of the scholarship is £7O. tenable for three years.

A Christiania message says that the Nobel committee has decided <W~/divide the peace prize between M. Branting. Swedish Socialist leader, and M. Lange, secretary of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
