WEST END SCHOOL GALA.

SATURDAY’S FUNCTION. Indications point to th'e/e being a very large attendance at Kawaroa Park on Saturday on the occasion of the West End School gala day, as this function ever since its inception has proved a most popular one with children and parents alike. The teachers and committee of the school, assisted by the Kawaroa Park Committee, are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that this year’s function shall excel all its predecessors, and the children are entering into the scheme with great enthusiasm. For the children a splendid programme has been prepared including races, and novelty competitions of all descriptions whilst-all the glides, slides, rock-a-byes and other paraphernalia provided by the park committee for the entertainment of the youngsters will be unreservedly placed at their disposal. There will be mueh*to interest and amuse the adults also, the spectacular displays by the children and the exhibition by the Boy Scouts being an entertainment in themselves. There are also numerous sideshows and competitions, whilst, various stalls will be replete with produce, fancy goods, etc. The doll-dressing competition is evoking'great interest among the children. The judges are likely to have a difficult task in adjudicating. The walking doll is sure ’to arouse ’great enthusiasm, particularly as it is the subject of one of the competitions, apd someone will be its fortunate possessor before the fete is closed. Afternoon tea is in the hands of the Kawaroa Park ladies, and the musical programme has; been entrusted to the Wellington Battalion Band, sufficient guarantee that both will be of the best. The gala will start early enough so that country people can take in its main features before leaving by the afternoon train.
