THE PEOPLE’S. ■ 1— VIOLA DANA IN “PUPPETS OF FATE”. —■ ; Viola Dana stars in “Puppets of Fate”, the Metro special which comes to the People’s to-night. “Puppets of Fate” promises to stand out among all the previous pictures of Viola Dana, for here she has an Opportunity to strike out from flapper roles into a characterisation that permits her to show emotional heights and depths. For this reason it will be well worth seeing. The picture, from an original screen story by Donn Byrne, novelist and short story writer, tells of Sorrentina Palombra, the wife of Gabriel. Both run a marionette. The husband goes alone to New York, and, becoming a wealthy gambler, forgets his wife and marries an adventuress. Sorrentina coriies to America, broken-hearted. Then she finds herself a success on the stage, and steps in at the eleventh hour to save her husband from the plottings of his erstwhile friends. The bill includes gazette, comedy and “The Diamond Queen”. EVERYBODY’S. JUNE CAPRICE AND CREIGHTON HALE. A charming'comedy-drama of the lighter order is “A Damsel in Distress”, starring the popular Pathe stars, June Caprice and Creighton Hale, concluding to-night at Everybody’s. The story is full of amusing and delightful comedy situations. “A Damsel in Distress” is the romance of a young “flapper” who goes to meet a former college sweetheart in New York. Her brother, however, catches sight of her, and, giving chase, his elusive sister Jumps into a nearby taxi, which happens to be occupied by • a young playwright. Then the comedy situations follow one another until romance enters the sphere of events, and a happy ending of mutual satisfaction is arrived at. The bill includes gazette, pictograph comedy and “The Invisible Hand”.
