FIRES IN HAWERA.
HEAVY LOSS CAUSED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hawera, Dec. 7. Two fires occurred last night. The Taranaki Building Company’s premises I were destroyed with heavy loss. The I fire had a strong hold when, discovered I and a high wind was blowing. The brigade did splendid work and succeeded in preventing the fire from spreading to the adjoining properties. The second outbreak occurred about two hours later at tne back premises of Mr. Pacey, a builder. The brigade was promptly on the scene and effected a fine save as the building was very old. The South Taranaki Building Company premises were insurred for £2OOO in the Standard Office, but the losg is estimated at £5OOO. Pacey’s insurances were £4OO on the building and £2OO on the stock in the Liverpool, Llondon and Globe Offices, and £3OO on the stack in the Royal Office. The damage is about £3OO.
