CORRESPONDENCE.
RE “HOOPING UP.” (To the Editor.) Sir, —“Faugl'-a-Ballagh" must be either a broken-down manager, or else he is very dense if he thinks it takes 20 minutes to “hoop up" alone. We think he must have some very good men round that side of the mountain, and should like to race him or tny other for any sum up to £ 36, at any time.— I am, etc., AN OLD-TIMER. Riverdale, December 5. THE POAKAI LANDS. (To the Editor.) Sir, —I notice in your Issue of November II a report of a meeting of the Tourist and Expansion League wherein Mr. W. B. Davie’ is stated to have said amongst other things that “It was a great mistake for tbe Government ever to have leased or sold the land between the Poakai and Kaitake ranges It was not really suited for settlement, as he knew from many years residence there, and the land would have been better utilised as a forest reserve.” Now, Mr. Editor, I should like to ask Mr. Davies which part cf this particular district he resided in, p.nd how he came to the conclusion that the land was unsuitable for settlement. —I am, etc., SETTLER. Carrington Road, December 6.
