TROUBLE WITH REBELS. A FRONTIER RAID. •By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. Received Dec. 3, 5.5 p.m. Delhi, Dec. 2. It is officially reported that the .troops* made excellent progress in the Kottakkai, Manaarghat and Calicut areas. The enemy was broken up and many surrenders are reported. Half the now caused by local criminals. A small •detachment of Ghurkas killed four, wounded three police and captured thirteen at Tanur. The large rebel concentration rumored latgly has not materialised. The rebels have fled to the hills or passed through the line. Spasmodic murders and looting do not affect the main issue; but are causing alarm and preventing the restoration o-f public confidence. It was officially stated to-day that special police killed twenty rebels. The Suffolk Regiment is establishing signal stations, and the rebels are moving east ,to west, their reported object being to say prayers at Manuparan prior to making a final ( stand. Confirmation of this report is awaited. Further details of the Waziri raid ' from Afghanistan show that the officers I killed include Captain Entwistle and Lieutenant Garrett, of the 92nd Punjabis, the'former being killed while gallantly leading a counter attack. He was wounded early, but continued to lead his men until killed. Command then devolved on a Sikhs officer, and the small band fought gallantly to the last under him. The casualties were two British officers and. 39 Indian ranks killed and 21 Indian ranks wounded. Prisoners were taken and IT were subsequently released. The Afghan Government expressed to Mr. Dobbs (British Agent) profound regret at the outrage, and also dispatched a special officer to investigate. —Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
