LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY.

THE TARANAKI CENTRE. A meeting of the North Taranaki Head Centre of the Royal Life-Saving Society was> held on Friday evening. Mr. A. R. Standish presided over a splendid attendance. The chairman said arrangements had been made by him for procuring a new reel for the Ngamotu beach, and that the reel which had been taken from the Fitzroy beach temporarily would be returned after being thoroughly overhauled. Correspondence was received front headquarters notifying that, the general secretary :uid treasurer. Mr. B. S. Knox, intended touring New Zealand and expressing the hone that districts and head centres having classes ready for examination in January will arrange for the exaunination to take place during Mr. Knox’s visit, also that an cnaeavor will be made for Mr. Knox to meet as many examiners and instructors as possible to discuss matters with a view to setting up the same standard of work in each district and head centre in New Zealand. In view of Mr. Knox’s visit it was decided to establish .he following classes: Elementary and proficiency; bronze medalion, men and women; award of onerit, men and women. Qualified instructors will take charge o? the classes, and all willing to join are asked to forward their names to Mr. P. A. Maithieson at the municipal baths by the lO.t.1? Inst, so that' practice can be with as little delay as possible, as Mr. Knox will be in New Plymouth on Tuesday. January 17. The question of organising the instructors and fixing time for instruction was left in the- hands of Mr. N. A. Christiansen. Mr. Christiansen and the secretary (Mr. Clarke) were appointed a sub-committee to check all awards, and where necessary to issue certificates.
