BAYLY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. WON BY STRATFORD BOY. The sports In connection witlr the Bayly Memorial Scholarship were held on Saturday at the New Plymouth High School grounds, which hud been kindly placed at the disposal of the Rugby Union by the school ati-thori-ties, wlo had afco prepared the ground and lent valuable assistance in running the sports. This year the scholarship was awarded on the points gained in the sports, each lad starting level from a. scholastic point of view, as the proficiency examination was taken as the basis, and not the marks gained in the junior scholarship examination as keretofore Additional interest, therefore, was lent to the sports on Saturday as the scholarship winner would be known as soon as the sports were finished. The winner was E. Alger, a pupil of the Stratford District High School, which has had a big say in the winning of this sctolarship ever since its inception. There were twenty competitors, viz.. New Plymouth High School 12, Stratford District High School 2, Hawera Technical College 2, Central 2, and Patea Convent and Te Roti one each. The sports were controlled by Mr. W. H. Moyes (starter), and Messrs. G. E. Jago (secretary), Jas. Garcia and A. R. Ryder (members of the Taranaki Union), and Mr. G. H. Pope. The boys entered keenly into their work, and some good performances were put up. The competition was very close, E. Alger winning with 200 points. Then followed; C. Shore (Hawera Tec.) 180, S. Cottier (N.P.H.S.) 170, J. Pease (N.P.H.S.) 147, G. Grant (N.P.ELS.) 137, R. Murdoch (N.P.H.S.) 135, .T. Galbraith (N.P.H.S.) 130, H. Davies (Stratford D.H.S.) —, ucuirey (■Central) 120, B. (N.P.H.S.), J. Pease (N.P.H.S.), and E. Runball (N.P.H.S.) equal, 27 points each. F. Godfrey (Central), D. Jordan (Te Roti), J. Johnson (Hawera Tec.), C. Shore (Hawera Tec.), and J.
