There was ideal weather and a perfect wicket for the Manawatu—Wairarapa representative cricket match in the Hawke Cup contest. The visitors’ innings was not marked by brilliant play, although several batsmen showed solid cricket. They took few risks, and their play gave the impression that they had a good deal in reserve. The hero of the Manawatu side was K. Hodder, whose 87 was good all through. Manawatu scored 159 in their first innings, and Wairarapa has lost eight wickets for 277. A sensational scocre was made for Wairarapa by D. C. Collins, who made 150. Law batted first and ran up the healthy total of 123, Jarvis 37 and Hoar 35 batting welL Banks replied with 57 (Wyllie 18 and Reading 13). Law in their second innings made 110 (Jarvis 21, Brodie 22, Beechey 25). With 177 to get for a win, Banks went out and did some lively hitting, but were all out for 90. Osborne 25, Grant 17). Beechey proved the stumbling block to the Banks’ batsmen, while for the Banks Grant bowled very well. The Hawera Wednesday team played Manain at tte Hawera Park on Wednesday, Manaia having a decided victory over the local team. For Manaia, Daley 19, Judd 18, Dr. Maunsell 16, Hobday 15, Broomfield (not. out) 14 did well. Hawera did better in the second innings. Fogarty 17, Spavin 12, and Worrall 11, were the principal scorers. ELTHAM v. INGLEWOOD. Eltham gained a three-point victory over Inglewood in a match played, at Eltham on Thursday. In the first innings Eltham made 73 (Davies 23, Bain 15), and in the second innings 71 for three wickets (Davies 30, Little 27 not out). Inglewood in their first innings made 42, no batsman reaching double figures. The second attempt was more successful, realising 86 (Sutherland 20, Bullot 19, Carmin. 17).
