Mr. Newton King is on a short visit to Wellington. Miss Airini Pope, formerly of New Plymouth,, has been awarded the Sarah A. Rhodes Travelling Scholarship of £250 for two years. The many friends of Mr. F. P. Corkill, of New Plymouth, will b.e glad to know that his condition has improved. A London message reports the death of Lord Mount Stephen, aged 92. Lord Mount Stephen was head of the Canadian Pacific Railway for many years. Miss Gladys Cooper, the actress, has been granted a decree for the restitution of conjugal rights against her husband, Captain Buckmaster. (Ex-Police Inspector Wilson, of Auckland. has been on a short visit to New 1 Plymouth. Mr. Wilson lost his wife in Auckland recently. He was married in New Plymouth over forty years ago. Very many people throughout Hawke’s Bay will read with deep regret the news received by cable of the death of Mr. J. S. Giblin, an old settler of Hawke’s Bay, who left New Zealand for the Old Land some years ago, and had since been in a frail state of health (says, the Hawke’s Bay Herald). He and his brother, Mr. Alfred GiblPn, came out to this Dominion in« 1868 with Mr. William Nelson. He learnt farming under Mr. Nelson, and managed several properties for him,, the last being Omatua, before he left for England. Of a bright and genial nature, the late Mr. Giblin was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He married a daughter of Mr. John Chambers, Te Mata, and leaves a son. Mr. C. C. Giblin., of Waipukurau, and two married daughters, living in England.
