DEFENCE RETRENCHMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. - Wellington, Nov. 30. The constant outcry against Defence expenditure appears to be bearing fruit, for further retrenchment is proposed by the department. The first step has been made at Trentham, where it has been decided to discontinue the fortnightly schools of instructions which have been a feature of the life there for some years past. This has necessitated the dismissal of a number of men connected with the work; but this will not be all. A full statement may be expected shortly from the Minister, who expected to disclose the fact that the services of some of the permanent staff -have been found unnecessary. Incidentally it is understood that Cabinet adheres to the decision not to hold a Dominion Rifle Association meeting this year. WOOL-GROWERS’ AND SEAMEN’S FUND. Foxton, Nov. 30.
