WELLINGTON TRAGEDY.

FURTHER DETAILS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Nov. 30. Foreman was 38 years of age an I a native of England, where he was convicted three times. He first came under the notice of the New Zealand police in 1910 and served sentences for burglary. On one occasion lie was only arrested after a determined attempt to escape and a violent struggle with a policeman. For some weeks .past he had been in the (habit of waylaying his wife in the street and had been seen adopting a threatening attitude to her. His demeanour was so noticeable that she was warned to keep out of his way. The house where the tragedy occurred has been empty for five months and was just acquired as a private hospital. There were signs of a struggle in the trampled grass and broken shrubs and the murder could easily have been witnessed from the houses on either side but, as it happened, nobody was at home. Mrs. Foreman, who is described as a very handsome young woman, was terribly injured and* no less than 14 wounds were found on her body. The weapon used is described as a brand new boy scout hatchet, evidently bought for the purpose. The pointed end had inflicted terrible woujids, nine of them in the region of the heart and two in the head. There were deep wounds on the hands and arms as though the poor woman had tried to fend off the blows. Jt is remarkable that her screams did not attract attention, for it is stated they were heard, but no notice was taken.
