Mr. Samuel Turner, and his daughter, Miss Muriel Turner, left Wellington by the Tainui on Saturday for London.

Mr. W. L. Fitzherbert, of Palmerston North, Who has been in England for six months, returned to New Zealand by the lonic on Sunday. The death of Mrs. Jane Ann Sealy relict of Dr. W. B. Sealy, at the age of 82, is announced in a Press Association message from Nelson. An eminent English military surgeon, Colonel Sir Arthur William Mayo-Rob-son, K.8.E., D.Sc., C.V.0., F.R.C.S., was a passenger from England by the liner lonic, which arrived at Wellington on Sunday.

Among those about to be retired on superannuation is Captain Post, who has been in command of the Tutanakei since Captain Fairchild relinquished command, and who was formerly in command of the Hinemoa. He was considered one of t'he most experienced and reliable skippers in Australasia.— Press Association.

Miss Percy Smith, late secretary to New Plymouth Girls’ Friendly Society, was the recipient of a presentation at the annual meeting of the society yesterday. The Rev. F. G. Harvie, in making the presentation of a handsome suede handbag, with Miss Percy Smith’s initials on a silver shield, voiced the regret of the society that she had found it necessary to resign.

The sympathy of a large circle of friends in New Plymouth will be extended to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. St. George Douglas, of Christchurch, on account of the death of their elder daughter, Miss Edna Helen Douglas, whieh took place in New Plymouth on Saturday last. Mr. Douglas, who was for many years in the Postal Department, was well known .n this district, being connected in his younger days with the early settlers. The late Miss Douglas was a niece of Mrs. Allen Douglas, of Pendarves Street.

Sir Sydney Beauchamp, K.8.E., whose death, as the result of a motor-bus accident, is announced by Press cablegram, was an exceedingly well-known and popular doctor practising in the West End of London. He was a graduate of Gaius College, Cambridge, and took his medical course at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. For active war work and ser>yce rendered as medical officer to the British Delegation during the Peace Conference in Paris, he received the honor of knighthood. Sir Sydney was a brother of the Countess Russell, authoress of “Elizabeth and her German Garden,” and many other well-known books, and cousin of Mr. Harold Beauchamp, chairman of the Bank of New Zealand. The Jewish people of Aucklad on Thursday night formally farewelled the Hon. Arthur M. Myers, who is about to leave New Zealand to join his wife and family in London. In a gathering at the synagogue, at which Mr. Myers was the guest of the congregation, Mr. N. A. Nathan made a presentation of an illuminated address, bound in suede leather, and containing such characteristic Auckland views as Rangitoto Island, Grafton Bridge, Myers Kindergarten, Cornwall Park, and the Town Hall. The gift, stated Mr. Nathan, was made as a token of remembrance to Mr. Myers from his coreligionists of Auckland. In returning thanks, Mr. Myers remarked, while his future was in the lap of the gods, h e did not feel that he was saying good-bye to Auckland. His mother and other members of his family, and many of his business interests remained there, and he expected to pay return visits to the city where he had spent so many happy years.
