INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent. Nov. 26. There is not much of interest to record from Inglewood for the last four days. Like other parts, we are experiencing mixed weather, Taranaki’s usual spring blend, but are bearing up under it as well as can be expected. Farmers are hoping for firmer conditions in the butter market and a better pay-out. Meanwhile the possibility of lower rates is making them give closer attention to the actual individual producing power of their cows. Testing and weighing are becoming more general, a condition that must result in an increased production of butter-fat, to the general benefit of the district, more especially when, as seems to be the case hereabouts, more study is given to providing suitable food and generally improved management of the herds. Interest for the coming week is caught by the announcement of Mr. Clement L. VVragge’s lecture on Monday, at the Town Hall, which • should draw a good audience, also the grand matinee concert by the convent school pupils in the Town Hall on Thursday afternoon, all arrangements for which are well in hand. This event is looked forward to with great interest, and a real musical treat is very confidently expected. The clearing sale on Friday, on account of Mr. H. M. Wall, conducted by Newton King, Ltd., at the farm, Durham Road, was very well attended. The horses realised £l4 10s to £lB 10s;
small pigs (slips) sold from 10s to 15s, sows and litters £B, sow in pig £4 15s. The cows sold well, several going at from £l4 10s to £l5, with £24 10s for top price. Yearling Jersey heifers made £4 10s. The implements, etc., also sold at good prices. Saturday’s mart sale was a small one, only six pigs (slips) being offered and sold at from 15s to 21s. Baby calves made 3s 6d for a heifer and 3s for a bull. Rimu fencing posts made Is 6d Cocks and hens made from 3s to 3s fid, cockerels Is, bantams 2s, ducks 3s Id to 3s 3d. ducklings 2s 3ds new potatoes 3-Jd to 4d per lb, and general sundries fair prices.
