ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) No?. 26. i The monthly meeting of the Eltham Borough Council was held on Friday. Mr. G. Hawken, M.P., wrote in reference to local bodies’ finance. He stated that local bodies would have power to strike a special rate to repay overdrafts, and the time will be extended and power be given to pay off part of the debt and borrow the balance at any time, thus giving the local bodies a chance to get a lower rate than at present. Local bodies would be able to take call money.—Received. It was decided that a separate plan of the borough be prepared and placed on the table at the next meeting of the council, showing (1) gas reticulation and street lighting; (2) water supply system and drainage; also that a price be obtained for an up-to-date plan of the borough. The poundkeeper reported that during last month 15 head of cattle had been impounded arid released. The fees amounted to £3 3s. The overseer and reserves caretaker reported on work done by them. He asked that authority be given to destroy all dogs found in the grounds.—Reports adopted. The treasurer reported that £lOBB 9s 3d had been received, during October, and that the expenditure amounted to £1763 5s Sd. The finance committee recommended that the matter of arranging for construction of a concrete tank for the new gas holder be left in*the hands of a committee consisting of the Mayor, Councillors Carter and Forsyth, with power to act. The Town Hall and Pictures Committee recommended: That the prices of admission for ordinary programmes be as follows: Dress circle Is 6d, stalls Is (including tax), and children half price when programme is suitable.—Adopted. The reports of the works committee, reserves and cemetery committee, and of a speial committee on traffic control, which recomended that the traffic dome be placed at the centre of the intersection of High and Bridge Streets, and as to parking of ears, were adopted.
