Fat Cattle. —An extra large yarding was offered, numbering 327 head of fair quality. The demand was slack throughout and prices were down 20s to 30s per head, and 40s per head in the case of prime heavyweight bullocks. Prime ox beef was worth up to 27s per 1001 b; and heifer beef about 20s. Prime bullocks realised from £l5 to £l7 2s 6d, medium £l2 to £l4, light and unfinished sorts from £8 upwards. Prime heifers realised from £lO to £l2, medium £8 to £9 10s, light and aged from £5 upwards. Sheep.—A large yarding, numbering 2982 head of good quality. Over 1200 of the yarding were shorn. There was a dragging sale, bidding being practically confined to local butchers. As the number offered was somewhat in excess of requirements, values showed a reduction of about Is 6d to 2s 6d per head, as compared with last week’s prices. Prime medium-weight wethers were worth within a fraction of 3%d per lb, heavyweights and ewes 2%d. Extra prime woolly wethers realised up to 26s 6d, prime 21s to 24s 3d. medium 18s to 20s light and unfinished sorts from 15s upwards. Woolly ewes sold at from 12s 6d to 17s per head. Lambs.—A total of 400 head was offered, which was the largest yarding so far this season. A fair demand was experienced and prices were down 2s per head. Values ranged from 14s 6d to 25s 9d per head for specially good iambs. Prime lamb was worth 7%d per lb. pigs.—A large yarding, all classes being well represented. The big supply was the cause of a weakening in prices, which declined 10s to 15s per head below those which ruled at last week’s sale. Best baconers realised from 7d to 7’/ 2 d per lb, and best porkers from 7%d to Bd. Store Cattle.—A large yarding, the quality of which was secondary and inferior. The demand was very slack and the sale all through lacked animation. The poor prices realised for fat cattle were no doubt partially responsible for the stagnation ruling in the store cattle market.
