ATHLETICS.
SPRINGBOK ATHLETIC TEAM. South African papers report on the personnel of the Springbok athletic team which will leave Capetown early in December on their Australasian tour. The party will consist of Costerlack, Bukes, and Kinsman (sprinters), Johnston and Leathern (middledistance men), also a manager and twqcyclists, who will not visit New Zealand. Costerlack represented his country at Antwerp, and qualified for the final of the 200 metres race, thus slowing he is one of the best sprinters of the amateur athletic world. W. Bukes carried off the 100 yards and 220 yards championship of South Africa in. 1920, winning the “100” in 10 l-ssec, and tl>c “220” in 22 2-ssec. Of the remaining three, Johnston appears to be the “crack” for the middle distances, while Leathern is reputed to be a "star” over tie mile. Of Kinsman (sprinter) no mention is made of his performances, although I have made inquiries from different sources. The team, although representative of South Africa, comprises -four athletes from Transvaal, while Leathern hails from Natal. Competing at Adelaide against the champions of the various States of Australia and of tho Dominjbn, they will be tried to their fullest extent, and will find Antipodes “cracks” a tough proposition. Tho team is without the services of Basil, G. D’U. Rudd, and H. Dafel, two middle-distance men whose performances are known taroughout the world.
