FARM AND DAIRY.
THE FARMERS’ UNION. The following from the Waikato Times is to the point:—“Having joined his union, the average farmer thinks he has done all that is required—he then expects the union to fight his battles and he blames the officers if this is not done effectively. He forgets that the officers’ personal interests are often not so great as his own, and apparently he does not realise that it is unfair to elect a fellow-farmer to a responsible position in the union and then leave him to “carry on” alone. If the farmers desire to become an effective body they must become energetic workers after joining up and back their executive by every possible meajis. .The farmers’ interests at this time require to be kept well in the forefront and to do that it is necessary that the members of the union shake off their lethargy and manifest an interest in the working of their organisation. What it needs is enthusiasm and if that could be instiled it would not be long before a closing of the ranks would be witnessed. The present efforts being made to galvanise the branches and executives into more activity will, it is hoped, prove effective.”
