PERSONAL.
The Rev. W. J. Comrie, church treasurer, was unanimously appointed Moderator to *the next Presbyterian General Assembly.—Press Association. Quite a number of wireless messages w’ere sent to Sir Joseph and Lady Ward, who are aboard the steamer Tahiti, welcoming them back to New Zealand, and expressing good wishes towards them. The steamer will arrive in Wellington this morning, when it is expected that a number of members will assemble to offer their personal welcome. A very old colonist, Mr. Jabez Westney, lias passed away at the Knox Home, West Tamaki. The deceased landed in Auckland with his parents in 1844 by the ship {Sydney. His parents immediately started farming operations in the lyohimarama district, later removing to Mangere, where some members of the family still reside. On the outbreak of the Maori war, Mr. Westney joined the volunteers, and served on outpost duty until the conclusion of the Waikato war. He then took up land in t'he Waikato district, where he remained for many years, later removing to Tau-1 ranga.
